I love Lesley Kinzel so very much. Not only is she one of my favorite writers, she speaks about the issues I struggle with/ponder on with so much class, humor, and intelligence. I basically want to go cardigan shopping with her and then eat cupcakes and photoshop ourselves…

This reminds me of the time my friend vented to me about the shithead dudes in her dating pool, and how they would totally pass on her being a funny, smart, compelling, knowledgable (about music & DJ culture, often vastly more than popular male DJs) person, expecting nothing of her and then being baffled when she would graciously expose some of her brilliance. A classic “whoa I didn’t think a girl would know anything about that” scenario except a thousand times more insulting.

This is Amber Riley, a woman I’ve never met and wouldn’t know me from boo boo the fool if she saw me on the street, but this woman has changed my outlook on a lot of things. She has helped me see beauty where for so long I believed society and thought there wasn’t. Amber has helped me feel comfortable in my own skin through her character Mercedes Jones, and through herself. She’s beautiful inside and out and through her consistent confidence in herself, and I’ve gained confidence in myself. I probably will never get to meet Amber, but if I did I’d tell her her presence on my television screen, in magazines, and just in general has truly changed my life. I can be more confident in myself, feel like I can be sexy too all because Ms. Riley appeared on my television screen. She probably has no clue she was changing a life by just being who she is, but she truly has.
